"Valentine's Day Dance"
"Our Roots" K-6 Grand Prize Winner
Jethro Jacobs, 1st Grade
Andover Central School
This picture is in the auditorium. It shows students in first through sixth grade at the Valentine's Day Dance. The P.A.W.S. program put this fun event together. They are a 21st Century Community Learning Center program that utilizes grant money to hold events and opportunities for our school and community. At the dance I played with some balloons with some of my friends, and snacked on cookies. My mom, the art teacher, showed me and some other kids how to use the camera to take pictures during the dance. Others enjoyed these activities as well as dancing. In school I normally only am around students in my first grade class, but the dance allowed me to be around kids of other grade levels, bringing us together as one elementary community. - Jethro

"Galeton Fireworks"
Braelyn Palmatier, 9th Grade
7-12 "Our Roots" Runner Up
Andover Central School

"The Galeton Fireworks are a tradition for so many local people. The Galton fireworks are historical for my family because every year my whole family, including my grandparents, go to the fireworks in Galton. Before the fireworks start we ride the fair rides there and eat dinner. Then we watch the fireworks. Every year the fireworks are always so loud and bright. They go one after another! You never have to wait and they usually last 1 hour and 30 minutes. After that we always stay the night at my grandma's house. This is also historical for other people because every year so many people sit around the river to watch the fireworks in Galton. Most of the people that go are the same people that go every year. "Our Rise." Winners

The Band Camino,
Veronica Coleman, 9th Grade
"Our Rise" 7-12 Runner Up
Andover Central School
"This picture, “The Band Camino,” shows the theme “rise” because everyone is lifting each other up through music. The crowd starts out as regular people, but when the music plays, they rise together and become part of something bigger. People are holding their hands up and making heart shapes, which shows happiness and connection. The bright lights and confetti falling from above make the moment feel exciting and important, like a celebration. It shows how music can help people grow and rise emotionally. Even though everyone comes from different roots, they all come together in this moment and rise as one group, sharing the same energy and feelings." -V
