Andover Central School Conducts School Safety Drills
ANDOVER, NY — September 18, 2026 — Andover Central School conducted its annual School Safety Days on September 17 and 18, providing students and staff with an opportunity to practice important emergency preparedness procedures and reinforce the school’s commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment.
Throughout the two-day safety initiative, students and staff participated in a series of emergency preparedness drills, including Hold, Secure, Lockdown, and Shelter drills. These exercises are designed to help students and staff understand how to respond appropriately and safely during a variety of potential emergency situations.
Following the completion of a lockdown drill, members of the Andover Police Department and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office visited classrooms throughout the school. Officers took the opportunity to meet and speak with students, answer questions, and commend them for their cooperation and preparedness during the exercise.
The classroom visits also provided students with an opportunity to interact with local law enforcement in a positive setting and to better understand the important role first responders play in keeping schools and communities safe.

School safety drills are an important part of emergency preparedness. While drills are conducted seriously, they also provide valuable opportunities for students and staff to become familiar with procedures and build confidence in knowing how to respond should an actual emergency occur.
